Bank MTO English, Writing and Analytical Preparation: What Each Section Asks For and How to Practise

আমাদের written exam guide এ 2026 সালের bank papers এ কী থাকে, তার একটি পরিষ্কার ধারণা দেওয়া হয়েছিল। এই guide এ সেই অংশগুলোকে গুরুত্ব দেওয়া হয়েছে যেখানে সবচেয়ে বেশি candidate marks হারান, অর্থাৎ English, writing এবং analytical section। 2026 BSCS Senior Officer pattern এ, যেটি Bangladesh Bank এর Assistant Director (General) exam ও ব্যবহার করে, English focus writing, Bangla to English translation, English language proficiency এবং analytical reasoning and argumentative writing section মিলিয়ে 200 written marks এর মধ্যে 110 marks থাকে। MCQ তে English এবং Analytical Skill মিলে 100 এর মধ্যে 40 marks। Private banks তাদের MTO tests এর জন্য কোনো syllabus প্রকাশ করে না, তাই প্রস্তুতির জন্য এই প্রকাশিত papers ই সবচেয়ে নির্ভরযোগ্য ভিত্তি। নিচে official notices অনুযায়ী প্রতিটি section এ কী চাওয়া হয় এবং কীভাবে practice করবেন, তা দেওয়া হলো।

How many marks are English, writing and reasoning

The Bankers' Selection Committee Secretariat (BSCS) at Bangladesh Bank publishes the content and marks of each combined exam for state owned banks. The table below takes only the English, translation and reasoning rows from the three 2026 notices.

শেষ row টি আবার দেখুন। 2026 সালের তিনটি pattern এর প্রতিটিতেই written paper এর অর্ধেকের বেশি English writing, translation এবং reasoning এর পেছনে। Mathematics এ 25 থেকে 30 marks এবং General Knowledge এ 10 থেকে 30 marks থাকে। তবুও অনেক candidate maths এবং GK এর পেছনেই preparation এর সবচেয়ে বেশি সময় দেন, কারণ সেখানে নিজের progress মাপা সহজ। Marks কিন্তু অন্য দিকেই ইঙ্গিত করছে।

The MCQ gets you in, the written paper and the viva rank you

On 29 September 2026 BSCS published notice 319/2026, the list of 1,037 candidates primarily selected for Senior Officer (General) at nine banks and two financial institutions. The notice says the panel was drawn up in merit order on the marks obtained in the written and oral exams. The MCQ is not part of that basis.

তাই MCQ ঠিক করে কে written paper এ বসার সুযোগ পাবেন, আর written paper এবং viva ঠিক করে rank। যেহেতু writing, translation এবং reasoning section মিলে written paper এর অর্ধেকেরও বেশি marks বহন করে, তাই merit position তৈরি বা হারানোর বড় জায়গা এটি। 8 August 2023 এর একটি Prothom Alo advice piece এ Bangladesh Bank এ Assistant Director পদের জন্য recommended একজন candidate একই বিষয়টি বলেছিলেন। তার বক্তব্য ছিল, 200 mark এর written paper ই মূলত job পাওয়ার বিষয়টি ঠিক করে।

English grammar and language proficiency

The 2026 Senior Officer notice is the only one that prints a topic list for English. Under English Language Proficiency, 20 marks in the written paper, it lists sentence structure, subject verb agreement, finite and non finite verbs, transformation, speech, clause and phrase, group verbs, idioms and right forms of verbs. The MCQ section is labelled "English: Grammar and Language", 20 marks. For vocabulary, a Bangla Tribune jobs desk guide of 13 June 2026 names synonyms, antonyms, analogy and prepositions, and recommends reading an English newspaper regularly.

এই তালিকার কোনো বিষয়ই নতুন নয়। এগুলো SSC এবং HSC English second paper এ পড়ানো একই topics। Bank exam এ এগুলো কঠিন লাগে মূলত speed এবং accuracy এর কারণে। প্রতি MCQ question এর জন্য প্রায় 36 seconds সময় থাকে, আর প্রতিটি wrong answer এর জন্য 0.25 marks কাটা যায়। তালিকা থেকে প্রতিদিন একটি topic নিন, timer ধরে 20টি question করুন এবং প্রতিটি ভুলের সঙ্গে কোন rule ভেঙেছেন সেটিও error log এ লিখে রাখুন। Written paper এ answer লিখে দিতে হয়, তাই transformation এবং speech এর practice option tick করে নয়, full sentences লিখে করুন।

Comprehension and précis

দুইটি Officer paper এই 20 mark এর English comprehension থাকে এবং 2026 সালের notices এ এটিকে পাঁচ marks করে চারটি question হিসেবে দেওয়া হয়েছে। Officer (General) এ আরও 20 mark এর précis আছে। 2023 সালের Prothom Alo piece এ সেই বছরের Bangladesh Bank officer paper কে একটি দীর্ঘ passage এবং ছয়টি question হিসেবে বর্ণনা করা হয়েছিল। সেখানে একটি বিষয় এখনো প্রাসঙ্গিক। কোনো candidate যদি English ধীরে পড়েন, তাহলে সময়ের মধ্যে passage শেষ করে answer দেওয়া কঠিন হয়ে যায়। প্রতিদিন একটি English editorial পড়ুন এবং নিজের ভাষায় এর main argument তিনটি sentence এ লিখুন। Précis এর জন্য প্রায় 300 words এর একটি passage নিয়ে সেটিকে প্রায় এক তৃতীয়াংশে নামিয়ে আনুন। এক তৃতীয়াংশ একটি common classroom rule। Notice এ কোনো নির্দিষ্ট length দেওয়া নেই।

Focus writing in English

Focus writing in English carries 30 marks in the Senior Officer paper and 35 in both Officer papers. All three notices describe it the same way: on recent global or Bangladesh issues. The 8 August 2023 Prothom Alo piece sorted the topics of past papers into three families: Bangladesh's development (LDC graduation, the garment industry, women's empowerment), problems (inflation, defaulted bank loans, climate change, food security), and banking and IT (green banking, fintech, cyber security in banking, the cashless society). The 2026 Bangla Tribune guide gives digital banking, inflation control and the green economy as examples. These are newspaper accounts of past patterns, not an official list.

একই Prothom Alo writer focus writing answer এ কী থাকা উচিত, তার মধ্যে points, headings, sub headings, paragraphs, data এবং clear handwriting এর কথা বলেছেন। বেশিরভাগ topic এর জন্য একটি simple frame ব্যবহার করা যায়। শুরুতে দুই বা তিনটি line এ issue টি define করুন এবং এমন একটি figure দিন যেটি নিয়ে আপনি নিশ্চিত। এরপর headings এর নিচে তিন বা চারটি ছোট paragraph লিখুন। কোথায় বিষয়টি এখন আছে, এর causes কী, Bangladesh এর economy বা banks এর ওপর effect কী এবং কী করা যেতে পারে, এগুলো আলাদা করে লিখুন। শেষে দুই line এ close করুন। এবার সময়ের হিসাব। 200 mark এর paper যদি দুই ঘণ্টার হয়, যেমন 2026 Officer (General) written exam ছিল, তাহলে 30 mark এর answer এর জন্য প্রায় 18 minutes এবং 35 mark এর answer এর জন্য প্রায় 21 minutes পাওয়া যায়। 18 minutes ধরে হাতে লিখুন এবং words count করুন। এই count ই আপনার real answer length। তাই আপনার plan সেই সীমার মধ্যেই fit করতে হবে।

Essay মুখস্থ করবেন না। TBS Graduates 17 February 2026 এ লিখেছিল, previous years এর essay মুখস্থ করে familiar topic আসবে এমন আশা করা বড় ধরনের risk। তাদের মতে, MTO written paper এর essay tasks 10 marks থেকে 30 বা তারও বেশি marks carry করতে পারে। এর আগের 24 December 2024 guide এ বলা হয়েছিল, বেশিরভাগ bank exams এ অন্তত একটি open topic writing question থাকে। কাজে দেয় সপ্তাহে দুটি timed piece লেখা এবং এমন figures এর একটি notebook রাখা যেগুলো আপনি check করেছেন, যেমন policy rate, inflation, remittance এবং export earnings, প্রতিটির সঙ্গে date এবং source লিখে। Exam এ কোনো figure তখনই ব্যবহার করবেন, যখন সেটি নিয়ে আপনি নিশ্চিত।

Translation

Bangla to English translation is 20 marks in all three 2026 papers, and Officer (General) adds 20 marks of English to Bangla. The Officer (General) notice prints each as a translation "in 5 Sentences", so the task is short and exact, not a long passage. A United Commercial Bank First Vice President wrote in Prothom Alo on 5 August 2022 that full marks are possible in mathematics and translation with regular practice.

Translation এমন একটি section যেখানে practice এর ফল সবচেয়ে দ্রুত দেখা যায়। কোনো Bangla daily এর business page থেকে একটি short paragraph নিন এবং 12 minutes ধরে translate করুন। দুই ঘণ্টার, 200 mark এর paper এ 20 marks এর জন্য এটিই available time। এরপর একটি English daily একই news কীভাবে report করেছে তা দেখে compare করুন। Sentence by sentence meaning translate করুন, word by word নয়। একটি দীর্ঘ Bangla sentence অনেক সময় দুইটি English sentence এ লিখলে বেশি natural হয়। Banking এবং economy terms দুই ভাষায় লিখে একটি list তৈরি করুন। যেমন মূল্যস্ফীতি এবং inflation, খেলাপি ঋণ এবং defaulted loan, নীতি সুদহার এবং policy rate, আমানত এবং deposit।

Analytical reasoning, critical thinking and argumentative writing

This is the new part of the 2026 Senior Officer and Bangladesh Bank AD pattern: Analytical Skill, 20 marks in the MCQ, and a 40 mark written section titled "Analytical Reasoning, Critical Thinking and Argumentative Writing". The notice prints the title and the marks and nothing else. It gives no topic list, no sample question, no split inside the 40 marks and no language for the answer. Argumentative writing on its own is older: Prothom Alo's report on the 2025 Senior Officer exam listed it at 30 marks, and the 2026 Officer (Cash) notice lists "argumentative writing in English" at 30.

Argumentative part এর জন্য একটি published description ধরে practice করা যায়। 2023 সালের Prothom Alo piece এ বলা হয়েছিল, argument questions debated social এবং economic issues থেকে আসতে পারে এবং question অনুযায়ী topic এর পক্ষে, বিপক্ষে অথবা দুই দিক থেকেই answer লিখতে হতে পারে। সেখানে examples হিসেবে artificial intelligence, social media এবং trade in taka দেওয়া হয়েছিল। Method টি simple। প্রথম দুই line এ নিজের position পরিষ্কার করুন। এরপর তিনটি reason দিন এবং প্রতিটির সঙ্গে একটি fact বা example রাখুন। অন্য পক্ষের strongest point টি তুলে ধরে তার answer দিন। তারপর conclusion লিখুন। Focus writing এ একটি issue describe করা হয়। Argument এ একটি side নিতে হয় এবং সেটি defend করতে হয়।

Analytical reasoning এবং critical thinking নিয়ে কিছু published নেই। তাই 40 marks এর ভেতরে exact question types জানা আছে বলে কেউ দাবি করলে সতর্ক থাকুন। সবচেয়ে কাছাকাছি press account private banks নিয়ে এবং সেটিও পুরোনো। The Financial Express 30 September 2021 এ reported করেছিল যে MTO mathematics মূলত analytical, GRE, GMAT বা BBA এবং MBA admission test level এর মতো, এবং এতে puzzles থাকে। আমাদের suggestion, যা কোনো syllabus নয়, একটি standard GMAT বা MBA admission test book থেকে timed reasoning sets practice করা। যেমন কোনো argument এর assumption খুঁজে বের করা, কোন বিষয় সেটিকে strengthen বা weaken করে, data sufficiency এবং arrangement puzzles। এর সঙ্গে একটি written drill রাখুন। একটি short argument পড়ুন এবং পাঁচ line এ লিখুন সেখানে কী assume করা হয়েছে এবং কোথায় weakness আছে।

A four week practice plan

The plan assumes about 90 minutes a day for these sections alone, next to your maths and GK work. Timings use the two hour, 200 mark paper as the base, which is 0.6 minutes per mark.

If the notice for your exam states a different length or mark split, redo the arithmetic. A private bank test may be shorter and may not include every section.

Mistakes that cost marks

কিছু ভুল বারবার marks কমিয়ে দেয়। Writing practice না করে essay মুখস্থ করা। Bangla sentence order হুবহু English translation এ নিয়ে আসা। এমন argumentative answer লেখা যেখানে কোনো position নেওয়া হয়নি। প্রথম writing task এ এত বেশি সময় দেওয়া যে শেষ section এর জন্য মাত্র ten minutes থাকে। এমন handwriting যেটি examiner এর পড়তে কষ্ট হয়। নিশ্চিত না হয়েও কোনো figure quote করা। আর শুধু পড়ে প্রস্তুতি নেওয়া, যখন এই প্রতিটি section এ আপনি কী লিখেছেন সেটির ওপর marks দেওয়া হয়।

What we could not verify

• What is inside the 40 mark analytical section. Notice 159/2026 gives no topic list, no sample, no split between reasoning and writing, and no language.
• The actual 2026 Senior Officer written questions. No official source or established newspaper we read has published them. Question collections on coaching sites were not used.
• How writing answers are marked. No BSCS notice we read publishes a marking scheme for focus writing, translation or argumentative writing.
• The length of the 2026 Senior Officer written paper. Notice 159/2026 does not state it. The 2026 Officer (General) written exam ran two hours for 200 marks.
• Private bank papers. No private bank we checked publishes its sections or marks, so whether a given bank sets translation, focus writing or a reasoning section can only be learned from that bank's own call letter or instructions.
