How ATS Works, and How to Build an ATS Friendly CV for MNC Jobs in Bangladesh

ATS নিয়ে পরামর্শ খুঁজলে বলা হয়, কোনো মানুষ CV দেখার আগেই একটি robot 75 per cent CV বাতিল করে দেয়। মুদ্রিত সূত্রে আমরা যে জায়গায় এই সংখ্যাটি পেয়েছি, সেখানে গবেষণাটির নাম উল্লেখ করা হয়নি। এই guide তৈরির জন্য 11 October 2026 তারিখে আমরা দুটি কাজ করেছি। বাংলাদেশের বড় নিয়োগদাতাদের apply button কোথায় নিয়ে যায়, তা যাচাই করেছি এবং এসব system তৈরি করা কোম্পানিগুলো CV কীভাবে প্রক্রিয়া করে, সে বিষয়ে তাদের প্রকাশিত তথ্য পড়েছি। এসব তথ্যের কিছু অংশ প্রচলিত পরামর্শকে সমর্থন করে, আবার কিছু অংশ করে না। নিচে ATS আপনার ফাইলের সঙ্গে কী করে, বাংলাদেশের নিয়োগদাতাদের বিষয়ে কী তথ্য পাওয়া গেছে এবং system ও recruiter উভয়ের জন্য সহজপাঠ্য CV কীভাবে তৈরি করবেন, তা তুলে ধরা হয়েছে।

What an ATS does with your CV

ATS stands for Applicant Tracking System. The companies that build them describe the work in plain terms. Lever's help page says its parser will "extract information from the resume and add it to the candidate's profile". SAP's help page for SuccessFactors says resume parsing "reads information from candidates' resumes and automatically enters it in the corresponding candidate profile fields". Roche, in an FAQ written for its own applicants, says its recruiters may search the parsed data, "but they will review each applicant and their attached CV".

একটি ATS মূলত তিনটি কাজ করে। প্রথমত, একটি পদের জন্য আসা সব application একই জায়গায় সংরক্ষণ করে। দ্বিতীয়ত, আপনার CV পড়ে নাম ও যোগাযোগের তথ্যের মতো বিবরণ নিয়ে profile এর নির্দিষ্ট ঘরে বসায়। তৃতীয়ত, recruiter কে এসব profile search ও filter করার সুযোগ দেয়। System আপনার CV ঠিকভাবে পড়তে না পারলে profile এর বিভিন্ন ঘর ফাঁকা থেকে যায় অথবা ভুল তথ্য দিয়ে পূরণ হয়। ফলে search করে আপনাকে খুঁজে পাওয়া কঠিন হয়ে পড়ে। এটি সত্যিকারের সমস্যা, তবে machine নিজে থেকে আপনার application বাতিল করে দেওয়ার বিষয়টি এর থেকে আলাদা।

Where your application goes at employers in Bangladesh

We followed the apply routes of eight employers on 11 October 2026. This is what each one showed.

টেবিলটিকে বিভিন্ন application জমা দেওয়ার পথের তালিকা হিসেবে দেখুন। একটি পথে আপনার CV Workday, SAP SuccessFactors অথবা Oracle এর মতো system এ upload করা হয়। অন্য একটি পথে CV Google Form এ attach করা হয়, যেখানে ফাইলটি যেভাবে দেওয়া হয় সেভাবেই সংরক্ষিত থাকে এবং কোনো parser থাকে না। তৃতীয় পথে CV email এর মাধ্যমে পাঠানো হয়। বাংলাদেশের একজন চাকরিপ্রার্থীর CV তাই তিনটি পথেই কাজ করার উপযোগী হওয়া দরকার। Parser যেন CV পড়তে পারে এবং screen এ ফাইলটি খোলা recruiter ও যেন সহজে পড়তে পারেন। তবে টেবিল থেকে কোনো নিয়োগদাতা তাদের system কীভাবে সাজিয়েছে, তা বোঝা যায় না। Application এর ranking কীভাবে হয়, কোন উত্তরের কারণে আবেদন বাতিল হতে পারে অথবা সবার আগে কে CV পড়েন, সেসব বিষয়ে কোনো নিয়োগদাতা প্রকাশ্যে তথ্য দেয়নি।

Does an ATS reject your CV by itself?

Two newspapers here have said yes. The Financial Express wrote on 1 February 2026: "Research indicates 75 per cent of resumes never reach human eyes because ATS reject them first." It doesn't name the research. A campus column in The Daily Star on 14 August 2025 said a resume that isn't ATS friendly is automatically dismissed, and added: "This happens before a human actually gets to see your resume." It gives no source either.

The companies that make the systems describe something narrower.

• Greenhouse says applications in its system are, by and large, "reviewed by real people, one by one, in the order received". It says its automatic rejection is "based on very specific rules that are set and controlled directly by recruiters", and that "AI doesn't score or rank applications". Its help centre ties those rules to the questions on the job post.
• Oracle's documentation describes a disqualification question as one that holds the minimum requirements for a job: "Answers to the disqualification questions decide if candidates move forward in the selection process or are automatically disqualified."
• A Harvard Business School study that surveyed employers in the US, the UK and Germany, published in 2021, found that 63 percent used a recruitment management system, and that more than 90 percent of those relied on it to make a first cut or to rank applicants. It describes filters such as excluding candidates without a college degree.
• Enhancv, a company that sells resume tools, interviewed 25 recruiters in the United States in 2025. It reports that 23 of them said their systems do not reject resumes automatically for formatting, content or design. The sample is small and Enhancv says it is not nationally representative.

None of these four studied Bangladesh. Greenhouse is not one of the systems in the table above. Read them as the best public description of how such systems work, not as a description of any employer here.

সব তথ্য একসঙ্গে বিবেচনা করলে দুটি ঝুঁকি সামনে আসে, যার কোনোটিই আপনার font এর সঙ্গে সম্পর্কিত নয়। প্রথম ঝুঁকিটি application form এর প্রশ্ন নিয়ে। Greenhouse এবং Oracle উভয়েই এমন rejection এর কথা জানিয়েছে, যা applicant এর উত্তরের ভিত্তিতে কার্যকর হয়। কোন উত্তর দিলে আবেদন বাতিল হবে, সেই সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়োগদাতাই নেন। তাই form এর প্রতিটি eligibility question মনোযোগ দিয়ে পড়ুন এবং সঠিক উত্তর দিন। দ্বিতীয় ঝুঁকি হলো search এ খুঁজে না পাওয়া। কোনো পদে শত শত application জমা হলে recruiter search ও filter ব্যবহার করেন। তখন system যে CV ঠিকভাবে পড়তে পারেনি অথবা যে CV তে circular এর শব্দগুলো ব্যবহার করা হয়নি, সেটি সহজেই চোখ এড়িয়ে যেতে পারে। কোনো নির্দিষ্ট application কীভাবে প্রক্রিয়া করা হয়েছে, তা কোম্পানির বাইরের কারও পক্ষে দেখা সম্ভব নয়। তাই কেউ যখন বলেন ATS তাঁর CV বাতিল করেছে, তখন সেটিকে নিশ্চিত তথ্য না ধরে অনুমান হিসেবে বিবেচনা করুন।

What breaks parsing, in the vendors' own words

প্রায় এক মিনিটেই দুটি পরীক্ষা করা যায়। প্রথমে CV ফাইলটি খুলুন এবং cursor দিয়ে কোনো লাইনের text select করা যায় কি না দেখুন। Lever এর documentation এ এই পরীক্ষার কথা বলা হয়েছে। Text select করা না গেলে document টি parser এর মাধ্যমে পড়া সম্ভব হওয়ার সম্ভাবনা কম। ছবি হিসেবে export করা CV অথবা print করা কাগজ scan করে তৈরি করা ফাইল এই পরীক্ষায় ব্যর্থ হয়। দ্বিতীয় পরীক্ষাটি আমাদের নিজস্ব পরামর্শ। সব text select করে copy করুন এবং Notepad এ paste করুন। আপনার নাম, phone number ও job title সঠিক ক্রমে দেখা গেলে parser ও সেগুলো সঠিক ক্রমে পড়তে পারার ভালো সম্ভাবনা থাকে।

How to build the CV

নিচের নিয়মগুলো সংশ্লিষ্ট documentation এ দেওয়া নির্দেশনার সঙ্গে সামঞ্জস্যপূর্ণ। নিয়মগুলো সহজ, আর সেটিই এখানে মূল বিষয়। System CV পড়ার পরও recruiter সেটি দেখেন। তাই CV সাধারণ ও সরল রাখার অর্থ অযত্নে তৈরি করা নয়। Alignment, spacing এবং section গুলোর পরিষ্কার বিন্যাস গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।

1. One column, top to bottom. No side panel, no text boxes, no tables for layout.
2. Standard headings in English. Use the ones in the table below.
3. Name and contact details in the body of the page, as typed text. Not in the header or footer, not in an image.
4. A common font, 10 to 12 point, as The Daily Star's column also advises.
5. One date format all the way through.
6. A text based PDF or a .docx file. If the circular names a format, use that one.
7. The words of the circular, where they are true of you. The method is in the next section.
8. A file name with your name in it.

Taking keywords from the circular

Here is a made up circular, written only to show the method.

Executive, Trade Marketing. The incumbent will manage trade marketing activities, ensure route to market execution, monitor distributor performance, prepare sales forecast and analyse data in MS Excel. Minimum 2 years of experience in FMCG is required.

The words to mark are Trade Marketing, Route to Market, Distributor Performance, Sales Forecast, MS Excel and FMCG.

Circular এ ব্যবহৃত শব্দগুলো কাজে লাগান। Step 1: Job description একটি document এ copy করুন এবং উপরে উল্লেখ করা ছয়টির মতো noun ও tool এর নাম চিহ্নিত করুন। Step 2: যেসব দক্ষতা আপনার সত্যিই আছে, সেগুলো Skills section এ circular এ যেভাবে লেখা হয়েছে, ঠিক সেভাবেই লিখুন। Step 3: আপনার experience এর বর্ণনায় একই শব্দ ব্যবহার করুন এবং আপনি কী করেছেন ও তার ফলাফল কী ছিল, তা উল্লেখ করুন। Step 4: Summary এর শুরুতে circular এ ব্যবহৃত job title লিখুন। যে skill আপনার নেই, সেটি CV তে যোগ করবেন না। কারণ interview তে CV এর যেকোনো লাইন সম্পর্কে আপনাকে প্রশ্ন করা হতে পারে। একই keyword বারবার লিখবেন না। এতে একজন মানুষের পক্ষে CV পড়া কঠিন হয়ে যায়।

Habits to drop from a Bangladeshi CV

বাংলাদেশের CV তে প্রচলিত কিছু অভ্যাস উপরের নির্দেশনাগুলোর বিপরীতে কাজ করে। এর একটি হলো পৃষ্ঠার শুরুতে বড় অক্ষরে "Curriculum Vitae" লেখা। এর পরিবর্তে নিজের নাম দিয়ে শুরু করুন। আরেকটি প্রচলিত বিষয় হলো বাবার নাম, মায়ের নাম, ধর্ম ও বৈবাহিক অবস্থা নিয়ে একটি আলাদা অংশ রাখা। Circular অথবা form এ এসব তথ্য চাওয়া না হলে সেগুলো বাদ দিন। Expected salary কেবল application এ চাওয়া হলে উল্লেখ করুন। আপনার তারিখগুলো যদি তিনভাবে লেখা থাকে, তাহলে একটি format বেছে নিন। উদাহরণ হিসেবে Jan 2021 to Mar 2024 ব্যবহার করতে পারেন এবং পুরো CV তে একই format অনুসরণ করুন। ছবি ব্যবহারের ক্ষেত্রে circular অনুসরণ করুন। উদাহরণ হিসেবে, BRAC এর internship FAQ তে passport sized digital picture সহ updated CV চাওয়া হয়েছে। ছবি দেওয়ার প্রয়োজন হলে নিজের নাম ও যোগাযোগের তথ্য সবসময় typed text হিসেবে লিখুন, কখনোই ছবির ভেতরে রাখবেন না।

bdjobs works differently

bdjobs is a job board with its own employer tools. The description of the Bdjobs Employer app on the App Store, written by Bdjobs, says the app "saves the information of candidates who have applied to your job". Its notes for version 4.0.0, dated 17 December 2024, list "Insightful job matching percentages with breakdowns." The description also says: "Swipe left to reject a candidate."

Bdjobs এই percentage কীভাবে হিসাব করা হয়, তা প্রকাশ করে না। তাই এ বিষয়ে অনুমান করে কিছু বলব না। ব্যবহারিক পদক্ষেপটি সহজ। আপনার bdjobs profile এর প্রতিটি section পূরণ করুন এবং অন্য কোথাও জমা দেওয়া CV এর সঙ্গে তথ্যের সামঞ্জস্য রাখুন। একই job title, একই তারিখ এবং একই বানান ব্যবহার করুন।
