English and MNC Hiring in Bangladesh: Where It Is Tested and What Is on Record
English is on record in two places in MNC hiring in Bangladesh: the written test and the recorded video answer. Here is what employers and their own recruits have published, what the national numbers say, and what nobody publishes about fluency or accent.

ক্যাম্পাসে অনেক সময় বলা হয়, MNC তে সুযোগ পাওয়ার ক্ষেত্রে spoken English সবচেয়ে বড় নির্ধারক। বিষয়টি যাচাই করতে আমরা দেখেছি, প্রকাশিত তথ্য আসলে কী বলছে। 9 October 2026 তারিখে আমরা ছয়টি employer এর posting, form ও FAQ পেজ, সাতটি programme এর নিয়োগ পাওয়া প্রার্থীদের প্রকাশিত অভিজ্ঞতা, দুটি employer survey এবং EF English Proficiency Index এর 2025 সংস্করণ পর্যালোচনা করেছি। এসব তথ্য থেকে বোঝা যায়, প্রার্থীদের মধ্যে যে ভয় কাজ করে, প্রকাশিত তথ্য তার চেয়ে অনেক সীমিত বিষয় তুলে ধরে। English লিখিত পরীক্ষায় এবং ক্যামেরার সামনে উত্তর দেওয়ার সময় যাচাই করা হয়, আর employer রাও সেটি স্পষ্টভাবে জানিয়েছে। তবে কোথাও fluency score, accent সংক্রান্ত কোনো নিয়ম কিংবা final interview কোন ভাষায় হবে, তা প্রকাশ করা হয়নি।

Read the last column before you rely on a row. Unilever's FAQ was written for an earlier cycle and its 2026 postings have been taken down. Standard Chartered's page is written for every country, not for Bangladesh. The bKash, Nagad, Aarong, Banglalink and Robi rows are recruits' accounts in a newspaper, not the employers' own statements. The four BAT postings are for regular roles, because no Global Graduate posting is open today.
সব তথ্য একসঙ্গে দেখলে তিনটি জায়গায় English এর ব্যবহার স্পষ্ট হয়ে ওঠে। প্রথমত, লিখিত পরীক্ষায়। bKash bNext এর দুজন alumnus জানিয়েছেন, 30 নম্বরের মধ্যে English এর জন্য 10 নম্বর থাকে। Nagad ও Aarong এর পরীক্ষার অভিজ্ঞতা বর্ণনা করা প্রার্থীরাও English কে পরীক্ষার একটি অংশ হিসেবে উল্লেখ করেছেন। দ্বিতীয়ত, recorded video answer এ। Unilever ও Standard Chartered উভয় প্রতিষ্ঠানই লিখিতভাবে জানিয়েছে, প্রার্থীদের English এ উত্তর দিতে হবে। তৃতীয় বিষয়টি সহজেই চোখ এড়িয়ে যেতে পারে। আমরা যে posting ও form পড়েছি, সেগুলো নিজেরাই English এ লেখা। অর্থাৎ, শুরু থেকেই আপনাকে English পড়তে ও লিখতে হচ্ছে। আজ আমরা যে posting ও form গুলো পর্যালোচনা করেছি, সেগুলোর কোনোটিতেই একটি শব্দ নেই, আর সেটি হলো fluency। তারা যে শব্দটি ব্যবহার করেছে, সেটি হলো communication।
What nobody publishes
আমরা যে employer গুলোর তথ্য পর্যালোচনা করেছি, তাদের কেউই জানায়নি যে group discussion বা final interview কোন ভাষায় অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। Spoken English এর জন্য কোনো score, accent সংক্রান্ত শর্ত কিংবা IELTS এর মতো পরীক্ষায় ন্যূনতম ফলাফলের কথাও কেউ প্রকাশ করেনি। এর অর্থ এই নয় যে interview বাংলায় হয়। আবার এটিও বলা যায় না যে interview ইংরেজিতে হয়। এর অর্থ হলো, employer এ বিষয়ে কিছু জানায়নি। প্রস্তুতির নিরাপদ উপায় হলো, English এ নিজের বক্তব্য পরিষ্কারভাবে তুলে ধরতে পারা এবং interview এর দিন panel যেভাবে এগোয়, তার সঙ্গে মানিয়ে নেওয়া। আমরা সাতটি নিয়োগ পাওয়া প্রার্থীর অভিজ্ঞতার বিবরণেও fluency ও accent শব্দ দুটি খুঁজেছি। একবারের জন্যও কোনোটিই পাওয়া যায়নি।
আমরা ক্লায়েন্টদের জন্য যে ATS ফরম্যাটগুলো বানাই, সেগুলো দেখে নিন। এক কলাম, সিলেক্ট করা যায় এমন টেক্সট, আর যে স্ট্রাকচার স্ক্রিনিং সিস্টেম আসলেই পড়তে পারে।

এই সংখ্যাগুলো দেখে বেশি কিছু ধরে নেওয়ার আগে তিনটি বিষয় মাথায় রাখা দরকার। CPD এর survey টি 2021 সালে বিভিন্ন খাতের 100টি employer এর ওপর করা হয়েছিল। অন্যদিকে, BIDS এর গবেষণায় National University এর অধিভুক্ত কলেজের স্নাতকদের নিয়োগ দেওয়া employer দের বিবেচনা করা হয়েছে। তাই কোনোটিই শুধু MNC নিয়ে করা survey নয়। EF এর index তৈরি হয়েছে EF এর নিজস্ব পরীক্ষায় অংশ নেওয়া প্রাপ্তবয়স্কদের ফলাফলের ভিত্তিতে, স্নাতকদের কোনো নমুনার ভিত্তিতে নয়। তারপরও একটি তথ্য কাজে লাগতে পারে। বাংলাদেশের চারটি skill score এর মধ্যে listening এর স্কোর সবচেয়ে কম, 472। অন্যদিকে, writing এর স্কোর সবচেয়ে বেশি, 559। Recorded video question এবং group discussion, দুটিরই শুরু listening দিয়ে।
CPD এর অনুষ্ঠানেই সবাই যে English এর গুরুত্ব নিয়ে একমত ছিলেন, তা নয়। Bdjobs.com এর chief executive officer A K M Fahim Mashroor বলেছেন, employer রা communication ও English কে প্রার্থী বাছাইয়ের প্রাথমিক ছাঁকনি হিসেবে ব্যবহার করেন। কারণ, তাঁদের ধারণা, কোনো graduate English এ ভালো হলে অন্য বিষয়েও ভালো হতে পারেন। তিনি আরও বলেছেন: "But the reality is not like that." অধিকাংশ ক্ষেত্রেই Bangla প্রয়োজন হওয়া সত্ত্বেও employer রা English কে বড় একটি skill হিসেবে বিবেচনা করেন, বিষয়টি তাঁকে অবাক করেছে বলেও তিনি জানান। Apex Footwear এর managing director Syed Nasim Manzur বলেছেন, তাঁর প্রতিষ্ঠানে চাকরির জন্য English language skills আর requirement হিসেবে থাকবে না। অর্থাৎ, English এর গুরুত্ব employer ভেদে আলাদা হতে পারে। এই guide এ আলোচিত programme গুলোর ক্ষেত্রে প্রকাশিত তথ্যের ভিত্তি হলো ওপরের তালিকা।
Fluency and clarity are not the same thing
নিয়োগ পাওয়া প্রার্থীদের অভিজ্ঞতার বিবরণে কোন বিষয়টির প্রশংসা করা হয়েছে, তা খেয়াল করলে বারবার একটি শব্দ সামনে আসে, clarity। Marico Impact 90 এর একজন intern নিজের অভিজ্ঞতায় clear communication skills এর কথা বলেছেন। তাঁর মতে, প্রার্থীরা নিজেদের অভিজ্ঞতা পরিষ্কারভাবে তুলে ধরতে পারলে আলাদা করে নজরে পড়েন। BRAC BRIDGE এর একজন alumnus জানিয়েছেন, নিজের আগ্রহ কীভাবে career path এর সঙ্গে মেলে, তা পরিষ্কারভাবে ব্যাখ্যা করতে পারা তাঁকে একটি স্বাভাবিক ও বিশ্বাসযোগ্য profile উপস্থাপনে সহায়তা করেছে। Nagad N Risers এর একজন alumnus interview তে আত্মবিশ্বাসের সঙ্গে communication করার পরামর্শ দিয়েছেন। Aarong এর একজন সাবেক intern বলেছেন, interviewers প্রার্থীদের communication skills, confidence, personality ও motivation মূল্যায়ন করেন। আর Robi GEM এর একজন প্রার্থীর অভিজ্ঞতায় group discussion নিয়ে বলা হয়েছে: "Candidates do not necessarily need to be the person who speaks the most."
বিভিন্ন তথ্য পড়ে আমাদের নিজস্ব উপলব্ধি হলো, fluency বলতে বোঝায় কত দ্রুত কথা বলতে পারছেন, আর clarity হলো শ্রোতা আপনার কথা বুঝতে পারছেন কি না। একটি মূল বক্তব্য, একটি উদাহরণ ও একটি ফলাফল দিয়ে সাজানো ছোট উত্তর যেকোনো গতিতেই পরিষ্কার হতে পারে। অন্যদিকে, কোনো নির্দিষ্ট বক্তব্য ছাড়াই দ্রুত অনেক কথা বললে fluency থাকতে পারে, কিন্তু তাতে কার্যকর কিছু বলা নাও হতে পারে। আপনার English বলতে সময় একটু বেশি লাগলেও উত্তরটি যদি গোছানো হয়, তাহলে প্রার্থীদের অভিজ্ঞতায় যে দক্ষতার কথা উঠে এসেছে, আপনি হয়তো তার ধারণার চেয়েও কাছাকাছি আছেন।

Written English এর ক্ষেত্রে CPD এর policy brief এ শিক্ষার্থীদের জন্য একটি পরামর্শ রয়েছে। Journal, newspaper article এমনকি webpage এ English এ লেখার অভ্যাস গড়ে তোলা। AIUB এর placement office শিক্ষার্থীদের CV তে English ও Bangla উভয় ভাষার দক্ষতার কথা এবং সেই দক্ষতার level উল্লেখ করতে বলে। যে level এর দক্ষতা আপনি বাস্তবে প্রমাণ করতে পারবেন, সেটিই লিখুন। কারণ, recorded answer কিংবা interview তে আপনার দক্ষতা সরাসরি বোঝা যাবে।
Before the assessment: a short checklist
This checklist is ours. Each point follows from a source above.
- Find out from the posting or the invitation email whether there is a recorded video round, and in which language.
- Practise listening as much as speaking. Listening is Bangladesh's lowest score in the EF index.
- Give every answer a point, an example and a result.
- Do not memorise answers word for word. Standard Chartered's FAQ says it is interested only in what you have to say.
- Do not spend your preparation on accent. Nothing on record mentions it.
- State your English and Bangla levels on the CV honestly, as AIUB's placement office advises.
