Project Control Lead

About the Role

Portfolio, Program & Project Management includes roles focused on delivering organizational projects and programs. Responsibilities include developing program/project management best practices and templates; monitoring dependencies across multiple interrelated projects; and gathering and reporting consolidated project status and financial information to leadership.

This function may serve as a central governing body to review and audit adherence to methodologies, budgets, and timelines. It may also provide full staffing and management for the organization’s major projects and programs.

Professional Stream

Professional stream includes individual contributors whose main emphasis is on applying technical/discipline-specific knowledge rather than managing people to achieve results.

However, coaching and mentoring less experienced staff, informal supervisory responsibilities, overseeing the work of other lower-level professionals, and managing processes and programs are common.

Individual work ranges from setting objectives and delivering on one’s own work responsibilities to serving as a leading expert within a given field and influencing the organization’s long-term tactical decisions.

Progression within this stream reflects increasing depth of professional knowledge, project management capability, and the ability to influence others.

Role Expectations

• Contribute to wider decision-making, including the development of practices, processes, and procedures.
• Develop knowledge and understanding of the business, own functional area, and interdependencies with other functions.
• Work independently within a broad framework, with a clear level of authority.
• Solve complex challenges based on accurate identification of underlying factors and causes.
• Assess the potential impact of proposed solutions outside the immediate area.
• Work cross-functionally to mitigate risks as needed.

Leaders at this level develop departmental plans based on the functional strategy and execute them through a team of professionals.
